The buying recommendation
Use the current approved cup-and-lid combination wherever it satisfies the campaign. Request a print proposal on that exact construction. A textured cup may require different graphic treatment from a smooth wall, so assess the actual print surface before approving fine detail.
Prioritise cup/lid compatibility before extending artwork across stores or launching seasonal versions.

Which Products Should Your Business Compare?
Use the project recommendation above to compare the relevant product families below. Add only the sizes and components that fulfil a defined menu or operating role.

Product starting point
A Hot-Drink Cup Format
Evaluate a suitable textured-wall cup for hot service, with the exact sip lid. Use normal filling temperature to assess hand comfort and handling.

A Separate Cold-Drink Specification
If paper cups are used for iced drinks, assess condensation, ice displacement and the intended lid. A hot-drink approval does not qualify a cold-drink combination automatically.

A Controlled Size-and-Lid Range
Start with the sizes that cover the actual menu. Record rim references, usable fill and the lids staff must order; nominal ounces are not a compatibility code.

What Makes This a Good Paper Pack?
A coffee chain needs a cup system that works with its drink menu, store routine and brand identity. Choosing one attractive cup is only part of that decision: rim compatibility, hot-drink handling and the number of printed versions determine whether the range is practical to reorder.
| Quality factor | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| Lid retention | Close the actual lid around the full rim and check it after filling, carrying and normal counter handling. |
| Hand comfort | Evaluate the selected wall construction or separately sourced sleeve with the drink temperature used in service. |
| Stack separation | Check that nested cups separate cleanly and remain round during the store’s normal dispensing routine. |
| Print legibility | Review the artwork on the actual surface: a textured outer wrap presents fine graphics differently from a smooth wall. |
Checks for This Specific Project.
Artwork on the Real Surface
Review a representative proof for wrap position, text clarity and colour appearance on the selected board or outer wrap.
Counter Distinction
Check how staff distinguish campaign stock from permanent stock when both are present.
Transition Plan
Document when the new design begins and what happens to remaining campaign stock after the promotion.
Compare candidates with the same agreed food, portion and handling conditions. Keep photographs, sample identities and observations with the decision; turn the accepted result into a written purchasing reference.

Use Stock, Labels or Custom Print?
| Buying route | When it fits this project | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Plain / stock-format enquiry | A sensible fallback where the event window is uncertain or the printed allocation cannot be justified. | Less dedicated artwork inventory; confirm availability and order terms. Buyer branding may be less visible. |
| Plain + buyer-applied label | Consider a short-run message on a suitable existing pack, including the work and appearance of applying labels. | Flexible information, with additional label purchasing, application work and surface checks. |
| Custom print on an existing format | Choose a dedicated print when the campaign scope, quantities by size and approval deadline are sufficiently clear. | A recurring brand identity with artwork/proofing work and quantities planned by size and design. |
| New structure / tooling enquiry | A seasonal graphic normally does not justify a new cup structure; separate any genuine functional redesign. | A functional development decision with samples, qualification and a separate commercial proposal. |

What Custom Printing Can Do for the Business.
A Recognisable Takeaway Cup
A permanent printed identity travels with the coffee and can be shared across appropriately scaled cup sizes.
A Controlled Store Catalogue
Naming the approved structure and artwork version gives franchisees a clearer reordering reference.
Separate Permanent and Changing Information
Keep core brand graphics on the cup while allowing the store to record drink-specific information separately.
Compare the Whole Purchasing Decision.
Request comparable quotes for the same structure and use. Include artwork and proofing charges, quantity per size/design, labels and application work, carton units, delivery scope and unused printed stock. Custom print creates value when recognition and repeat demand justify those commitments; it is not an automatic saving.
04 / Buyer guide
Choose the Board, Barrier and Closure Separately.
Keep the approved food-contact structure unchanged unless the product itself changes. Compare the campaign’s artwork on natural and white surfaces only if those surfaces are available in an appropriate qualified construction; colour appearance is not a reason to relax beverage performance.
| Application component | Recommended starting point |
|---|---|
| Board and moisture barrier | Use a specified beverage-cup structure for the drink and contact conditions. Compare the finished cup rather than paper colour alone. |
| Outer wall and sleeve | Choose a handling solution around hot-drink service; do not assume an extra layer eliminates every need for staff evaluation. |
| Lid material | Ask for the exact lid polymer or fibre structure, rim match and intended temperature conditions. |
| Alternative barriers | Consider a documented alternative where the destination brief calls for it; verify the complete cup and local collection route. |
| Route | Why compare it | What needs confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Natural kraft exterior | A useful starting look for restrained graphics and a visible natural-paper finish. | Review real print contrast and consistency. Kraft colour is not a barrier specification or environmental certification. |
| White exterior / print surface | Compare when fine detail, colour appearance or a clean visual system is central to the brand. | Approve a proof on the actual finished surface; exterior colour does not establish food-contact performance. |
| PE-lined finished pack | A practical comparison baseline where offered for the intended wet/oily food or beverage. | Confirm the exact construction, food-contact use and paired closure. Recycling acceptance depends on the finished pack and local system. |
| Dispersion / alternative barrier | Worth comparing when a specific material or end-of-life brief motivates an alternative. | Availability and properties depend on the finished structure. Obtain candidate-specific information and trial it; do not assume a universal replacement. |
| PLA or a compostability-led route | Consider only where that exact candidate and a relevant collection route are available. | Check the complete product and any certification scope. A polymer name does not establish home compostability or local acceptance. |
| Separate lid or integral closure | Choose around food height, visibility, closure and the real service routine. | Record lid material and reference separately. Matching diameter alone does not guarantee compatibility. |
Material background: Metsä Board foodservice boards explains board and barrier roles; Stora Enso barrier solutions describes product-specific alternatives. These are material references, not evidence of Fude using those suppliers or grades. For compostability-led enquiries, verify the exact product in the relevant certification directory and collection system.
PET, PP or Paper/Fibre for the Lid?
For hot coffee, start with an offered lid explicitly specified for that hot-drink cup and service. Compare a suitable moulded lid with an offered paper/fibre alternative. Review sip opening, rim fit and handling; a clear cold-food PET lid is not the hot-drink default.
| Lid route | Why compare it | Trade-off and check |
|---|---|---|
| PET lid | Compare for cold-food visibility and a clear display. | Check the actual product’s use limitations, headspace and rim pairing. Do not transfer a cold-use approval to hot food or heating. |
| PP lid | Compare where an offered grade and finished design suit the intended handling or thermal brief. | Inspect clarity, stiffness, fit and exact-use evidence. The letters PP do not approve every lid for every appliance. |
| Paper / moulded-fibre lid | Compare for a coordinated paper-led appearance. | Usually gives less product visibility; assess barrier, condensation, fit and any window separately. Fibre content alone does not establish compostability. |
For examples of product-specific use differences, see BioPak’s cold-use PET lid and specified paper bowl lid. These examples illustrate why finished-product specifications matter; they do not describe Fude lid availability or approval.

How to Choose a Capable Manufacturer.
Ask for the artwork file requirements, proofing sequence and the point at which a revision changes the quotation or schedule. Establish the final authorised approver.
| Manufacturer question | Useful answer or evidence |
|---|---|
| Can the manufacturer demonstrate the proposed cup-and-lid pair? | Request dimensions, paired references and samples; an approximate rim measurement is insufficient. |
| How is the outer surface printed? | Compare proofs on the actual smooth or textured construction and ask who approves colour and position. |
| How are design quantities quoted? | Ask for the quantity basis for each size and artwork, rather than applying the total chain volume to every version. |
Relevant Manufacturing Scope
Ask which operations and products are offered directly and which components or processes involve other suppliers. A broad catalogue alone does not establish control of every proposed item.
A Traceable Approval Route
Look for an agreed specification, sample identity, correct dieline, artwork revision and authorised approver. Relevant product information should describe the exact structure and intended use.
A Clear Repeat-Order and Issue Process
Agree how ordered references, packing and batch information are identified, how discrepancies are reported and how substitutions or changes are approved before production.

Send a Brief That Produces Comparable Proposals.
Working backwards from the advertising launch while omitting sample and artwork approval time can leave an incomplete procurement plan. Obtain a project-specific schedule rather than assuming a standard lead time.
Define the Product and Food.
Include portions, food photographs, moisture/oil contact, the intended closure and the real filling, holding and carrying routine. State special equipment, storage or heating only where part of the actual project.
Separate Quantities and Identities.
List quantity per size and artwork, distinguish forecast from firm order and identify the authorised design owner. Share the receiving point and required timing, then ask for a project-specific proposal.
Agree Acceptance Before the Bulk Order.
Confirm sample checks, relevant document scope, carton units, production reference and change approval. Ask for MOQ, proofing costs and timing for the quoted combination rather than assuming a universal figure.

Why Put FUDE on Your Sourcing Shortlist?
Fude is a relevant manufacturer to approach when your brief overlaps its paper cup, bowl, meal-box or food-tray catalogue and custom-packaging service.
For coffee chains, begin with the product references shown above and ask Fude to propose the exact available structure, paired components and sample route. Compare that response with the guide’s selection criteria rather than choosing on the logo or unit price alone.
This guide discusses paper beverage cups. Confirm the precise wall construction, lids and use conditions with Fude; accessories and alternative barriers are not assumed to be available.
Ask Fude to confirm dimensions, materials, available customisation, sample/proofing sequence, quantities, timing and delivery responsibilities for your order. Keep the accepted specification and commercial scope in writing.

Questions Procurement Teams Ask.
Should Every Serving Size Carry the Seasonal Design?
Choose sizes by the actual campaign menu and expected consumption. A smaller controlled campaign range can coexist with the permanent design.
Can the Same Artwork Simply Be Enlarged?
Ask the supplier to lay out each size and review legibility, wrap position and the printable area before approval.
What Makes Plain and Printed Quotations Comparable?
Use the same product construction, matched closure, quantities and delivery scope. Itemise print/proofing work, labels where relevant and any development separately.
Which Details Are Needed for the First Manufacturer Enquiry?
Provide the menu and portions, intended use, products and lids, quantities by size/design, destination, timing and sample requirements. Use the scenario brief above as a starting point.
